Why American Bresse?
"The queen of chickens, and the chicken of kings."
Bred in France for over 500 years, the Bresse is prized for the tastiest, firmest, most succulent meat of any chicken — and it's a true dual-purpose bird. It's the only chicken whose meat marbles like a fine Wagyu steak, with fat woven right through the muscle for flavor and tenderness no other bird can match.
Only in the United States since around 2017, it's still rare. We raise a healthy flock right here on Slaydenwood Road and breed to the American Bresse standard — selecting for correct type and true white eggs, not the cream or tan eggs that signal a mixed line.
We also select our breeders for the strongest marbling genetics — not every Bresse expresses that gene, so we keep the ones that do.
- TypeDual-purpose (gourmet meat + eggs)
- MarblingWagyu-like marbling — rare in poultry
- EggsWhite — the breed-standard egg color
- HeritageU.S. line of the French Bresse Gauloise
- ReputationGourmet — "the queen of chickens"
- Bred to standardSelected for type & white eggs

About Slaydenwood Hatchery
We're a small, family-run hatchery on Slaydenwood Road in Vanleer, Middle Tennessee. What started as a love for good birds and good eggs has grown into a careful little operation built around one remarkable breed — the American Bresse.
We breed to the American Bresse standard, selecting for correct type and true white eggs — the mark of a clean line. Every chick and hatching egg comes from our own flock, raised by hand and hatched right here on Slaydenwood Road.
We keep things small and personal on purpose: healthy birds, honest advice, and a real person on the other end of the phone. As we grow, we're finishing our new feeding-room construction project and pursuing NPIP certification so we can one day ship beyond Tennessee.
